Being Foody

Zak and I share a number of things in common, which is why we're so compatible.  One of the things we really enjoy is the experience of unique and delicious cuisine.  Apart from the fact that we could both easily eat an entire ocean of sushi, love a really well prepared burger and are not afraid to try new flavors on it, we also have a shared interest in regional foods.

Sometimes we'll spend a whole afternoon watching online cooking shows about the flavors of a culture, which is all the more interesting when we find locations where we previously knew little or nothing about their local dishes.  Here are a few examples of dishes we have seen recently that we are VERY interested in trying out:

Bunny Chow - South Africa

This delectable portable soup and sandwich looking thing is a street food found in Durban, South Africa. It's a hollowed out half-loaf filled with your choice of meat and curry, and I want to try them all. Here is a recipe for it, in case you can't make it to South Africa any time soon:

Joshua Tree Birds

Just got back from a brief stay in Joshua Tree with my darling - beautiful peace and fauna, and a big old steak from Pappy & Harriet's.  We enjoyed ourselves the whole time despite the park being closed for the federal shutdown.  (Someone should fire those jokers and bring in replacements who will do the work.  Seriously.  But that's not what this post is about.)

But one of the things we enjoy most about JT is the bird life.  We're not birders, per se, but we do find our feathered friends fascinating and entertaining and we can watch them for hours.

I wish today were every day.

I swear, Sundays are just the best.  I sleep in, laze about with my darling, eat something ambitious for breakfast, and eventually get into a shower.  And then the REAL Sunday begins.

Like today, beginning with some mindless meandering around the Internet, followed up by a session of lyric tweaking for a song we're working on to make it more singable.  Then I go read for a bit while he lays down some bass and guitar, and eventually I decide it's time to eat something lunch-like, so I head to the Taco Bell for a truckload of tacos.  Yeah, that's right - Taco Bell.

Now I'm back and waiting for my turn on vocals, and then later we meet up with some friends virtually and play music trivia.

Honestly, I can't think of a better day.
